Link Popularity Building

Link popularity is a rating system given to a web site that is based on how many external and internal links are pointing to any particular web page. External links would include those that come from any other web site other than your own whereas internal links would be those that come from within the same domain name.
Link popularity is also based not only on the "quantity" of links but the "quality or relevancy" of those links. Therefore to improve link popularity, it is not necessarily required to have a large number of links pointing to your site but rather a good number of quality links.

  Reciprocal Links and One-Way Links
There are two types of external links you can receive. One is called reciprocal. This is where you agree to exchange links with another web site owner meaning they place a link to your site on one of their pages and you in return place a link to their site on one of your pages.
The other type of link would be a one-way link. This is simply when another web site links to yours without requiring a link in exchange. Sometimes these can be obtained for free but often the web site owner will charge a one time or recurring fee
